Dr. Yancey is Professor and former Chair of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center. He graduated from the University of Georgia (Valedictorian, Summa Cum Laude) and subsequently earned his Medical Degree (Alpha Omega Alpha) from the Medical College of Georgia (MCG). He performed his internship (Internal Medicine) and residency (Dermatology) training at MCG and subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Dermatology Branch of the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He is certified by the American Board of Dermatology and holds subspecialty certification in Dermatologic Immunology and Diagnostic Laboratory Immunology. Dr. Yancey is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Society for Investigative Dermatology (SID), the Dermatology Foundation (DF), the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the American Dermatological Association, the Association of Professors of Dermatology, and numerous other professional organizations. He is a current member of the NIH NIAMS Board of Scientific Counselors and several Editorial Boards. He is a former Director and Vice President of the American Board of Dermatology, Deputy Editor of the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, President of the SID, President of the DF, Member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Professors of Dermatology, and Chair of the Department of Dermatology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Yancey received the Uniformed Services University’s Distinguished Service Medal (1993), the AAD’s Marion Sulzberger Award (2007), the American Skin Association Achievement Award in Autoimmune Skin Disorders (2016) and Founders Award (2024), the Texas Dermatological Society Robert G. Freeman Mentoring and Leadership Award (2023), UT Southwestern’s Leaders in Clinical Excellence Mentoring Award (2023), the SID’s Stephen Rothman Award (2024), and other esteemed professional recognitions. He has published numerous research manuscripts and monographs, served on an array of grant review panels, and presented invited lectures in the US and abroad. Dr. Yancey has held research support from the NIH for over 25 years.
