The mission of Masterclasses in Dermatology is to provide state-of-the-art
interdisciplinary education to dermatologists and other clinicians in the dermatology field.

We are firm believers in learning across multiple medical specialties, as we feel it helps strengthen diagnostic and treatment skills and provides a broader frame of reference when treating patients.

We are proud to present the only interdisciplinary education, created by expert dermatologists, and geared specifically to dermatologists. Our annual meeting consists of a curriculum covering a wide range of medical and surgical diseases, imaging techniques, cutting-edge innovations, and advocacy. We present lectures and interactive discussions led by experts in the fields of dermatology, rheumatology, infectious disease, gastroenterology, and more. This meeting also offers the opportunity to network with peers and interact with industry professionals.

MASTERCLASSES IN PSORIATIC DISEASE PLUS
FOR ADVANCED PRACTICE PROVIDERS+

We are also excited to have introduced a new meeting in 2023 – Masterclasses in Psoriatic Disease Plus for Advanced Practice Providers+. This unique meeting provides expert interdisciplinary insight on all aspects of psoriatic disease. We will cover topics such as screening, management, skin and joint disease examination, co-morbidities considerations, and complex management with an emphasis on hands-on and case-based learning. Our outstanding faculty has expertise in related disease states, such as rheumatology, and will share their perspectives.

Meet Our Founders

Alice Gottlieb, MD, PhD

Dr. Gottlieb is an internationally recognized expert in the field of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. She is triple-board certified in dermatology, rheumatology, and internal medicine — making her one of only a handful of doctors in the U.S. to be certified in all three specialties. She is currently Medical Director and Clinical Professor, Mount Sinai Beth Israel Dermatology, Kimberly and Eric J, Waldman Department of Dermatology at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Over the course of her career, Dr. Gottlieb has held many leadership positions, published over 450 groundbreaking peer-reviewed articles, and has presented her original research at more than 300 dermatology and rheumatology conferences in the U.S. and internationally. She is the recipient of many awards for excellence in teaching and research. She is a winner of this year’s Master Dermatologist Award from the American Academy of Dermatology.

Dr. Gottlieb’s work has contributed to drug development in psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, vitiligo, and hidradenitis suppurativa, Her research has helped the numerous students, residents, and fellows she has trained, as well as the dermatologic community at large, to better understand the diagnosis and management of psoriatic diseases.

Joseph F. Merola, MD, MMSc

Dr. Merola is Associate Professor in the Department of Dermatology and Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology at Harvard Medical School. He is also an Associate Physician in the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology.

Dr. Merola is board-certified in dermatology, rheumatology, and internal medicine — making him one of only a handful of doctors in the U.S. to be certified in all three specialties. He serves as Director of the Clinical Unit for Research Innovation and Trials (CURelT), Director of the Center for Skin and Related Musculoskeletal Diseases, and the Associate Program Director for the Harvard Combined Internal Medicine-Dermatology Residency Training Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Dr. Merola earned his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine, followed by his Master of Medical Sciences degree at Harvard Medical School. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a residency in Dermatology at New York University Medical Center. He continued with a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Rheumatology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
