Dr. Joseph Merola and myself, Alice Gottlieb, felt that there was a need for dermatologists to learn from both other dermatologists and other experts. Many of our diseases are not just skin diseases and dermatologists are not always experts in other diseases. Often, there are skin disease comorbidities. For example, psoriatic disease. It’s about psoriasis, but also psoriatic arthritis. Both Dr. Merola and I will be talking about psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

Additionally, Dr. Ryan Stidham, a gastroenterologist, will talk about inflammatory bowel disease. There is a lot being said about inflammatory bowel disease, not only in relation to gastroenterology, but also in the dermatology field — particularly in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. We are also going to talk about allergies. We constantly get asked as dermatologists, “What should I do about my child’s diet? Is it because we’re eating the wrong thing?” In that case, don’t ask the dermatologist, ask the allergist. That’s why we will also have allergists talking about issues like that.
