Dr. Joel Gelfand discusses the results of a recent paper they published. This paper revealed a huge gap in the clinical practice of dermatology. Many practitioners are not screening patients for comorbidities such as diabetes or hypertension. Very rarely do they check cholesterol. This study found that less than 3% of the time are patients screened for diabetes or high cholesterol. Less than 10% of the time are they screened for hypertension. This gap does not meet the standard of care. As a result, patients seeking treatment for psoriasis may be missing out on other screenings and treatments that could help them live healthier, longer lives.
That’s where Masterclasses in Dermatology can bridge the gap. This is the only interdisciplinary dermatology meeting of its kind. Masterclasses in Dermatology was created for dermatologists, by dermatologists. This meeting brings together allergists, rheumatologists, surgeons, gastroenterologists, ophthalmologists, and more, all for the sake of interdisciplinary education geared toward helping dermatologists become better practitioners.
